Baggage Check-In Procedures and Precautions
The weight of baggage may be slightly different using small size scale or larger commercial scale at the airport.
Any piece of baggage that exceeds the weight limit of 32kg(70lbs) cannot be checked, regardless of the charges for excess baggage. Please repack such over weight baggage so that they meet the weight limit.
All carry-on baggage is subject to security screening. Please make sure restricted items such as eyebrow trimmers, nail clippers, etc are not included in the carry-on.
After completing check-in procedures, passengers should stand by near the counter for approximately 5 minutes until the X-ray screening of baggage has been completed. If no issue is found, passengers are then free to proceed to the boarding gate.
For safe travel, do not take someone else's baggage.
To avoid complications during baggage claim at the destination airport, please make sure to keep baggage tags.
Baggage Transportation
From International Flight to International Flight (e.g. Incheon-Tokyo-Los Angeles)
In general, upon completion of an international flight and connection to another international flight via another airline in order to go to the country of final destination, checked-in baggage is automatically forwarded between airlines, regardless of the relationship, if any, between them.

As such, passengers are not required to claim their baggage and complete check-in procedures again at the port of transit. Passengers are only recommended to confirm that their check-in baggage has been designated to their final destination at the airport check-in counter prior to departure.

From International Flight to Domestic Flight

1) Domestic Flights Within Europe (e.g. Incheon-Frankfurt-Hamburg)
Checked baggage is automatically forwarded to the final destination.

2) Domestic Flights Within Korea (e.g. Los Angeles-Incheon-Busan)
Automatic forwarding of checked baggage is not available. Passengers traveling from overseas into Korea and connecting to domestic flights within Korea must claim their baggage and complete check-in procedures again to their final destination.

3) Domestic Flights Within Most Countries Including Australia, Japan, Russia, China, India, etc. (e.g. Incheon-Tokyo-Fukuoka)
  Baggage forwarding is not available.

4) Domestic Flights Within the United States and Canada (e.g. Incheon-Los Angeles-Phoenix)
Passengers traveling from overseas into the United States and connecting to a domestic flight must claim their baggage at the first port of stopover.

However, in the case of the United States, as the final destination is designated on baggage check tags, passengers are only required to pass through customs inspection and then simply place their baggage on nearby conveyor belts intended for the use of transit passengers.

Passengers must then proceed to the counter of the domestic airline to check-in and receive their seating assignments. (Identical procedures apply to Canada.)

From Domestic Flight to International Flight

1) Korea (e.g. Busan-Gimpo-Incheon-Los Angeles)
For domestic flights and international flights, if flying entirely with Korean Air, checked baggage is automatically forwarded to the final destination, and passengers can receive their domestic and international flight boarding passes at one time.
If the connecting international flight is with another airline or is a joint flight not directly operated by Korean Air, passengers must claim their baggage at Gimpo Airport and transport it to Incheon Airport, where it must be checked in again.

* Note: Passengers who intend to travel from Gimpo Airport to Incheon Airport should purchase KAL limousine tickets (Gimpo-Incheon) at the airport counter of the regional port of departure.

2) United States (e.g. Phoenix-Los Angeles-Incheon)
  Baggage is automatically forwarded.

3) Other Countries Including China, India, Japan, Australia, etc. (e.g. Tianjin-Beijing-Incheon)
  Baggage forwarding is not available.

4) Europe (e.g. Hamburg-Frankfurt-Incheon)
  Baggage is automatically forwarded.
