Special Items / Large Musical Instruments

Passengers are permitted to transport large musical instruments, such as cellos, as carry-on or check-in baggage.

Transporting Instruments as Carry-on Baggage

Passengers must specify the flight number and place a reservation to carry-on their musical instruments with the reservation center.
As a large instrument, such as a cello, will occupy an extra seat when carried into the cabin, a passenger must purchase an extra standard one-way, adult-fare flight ticket in lieu of excess baggage charges.
Passengers should complete an agreement authorizing the airline to transport musical instruments at the airport check-in counter.

Transporting Instruments as Check-In Baggage

To transport large musical instruments, such as cellos, as check-in baggage, passengers can complete standard baggage check-in procedures at the check-in counter. If the total baggage weight is within the free baggage allowance, an instrument can be checked-in free of charge.
However, due to possible damage occurring during transport, passengers should pack instruments with care in hard cases and with ample shock absorbing material/padding. Finally, passengers are required to complete an agreement authorizing the airline to transport their instruments.
