In the aircraft sector, Korean Air is doing its utmost to reduce exhaust gas emissions and noise pollution through the introduction of high-efficiency environmental-friendly aircraft and systematic fuel management. |

Reduction in increase ratio of CO2 emissions |

While transport performance (RTK, Revenue Ton Kilometer) of Korean Air in 2010, compared to 2000, has increased dramatically up to 77.5%, the increase ratio for CO2 emissions reached only 48.4%. |

CO2 emissions per raw unit are 81.4kg-CO2e/100RTK, displaying an improvement up to -14% compared to 2000 and the fuel consumption per raw unit is 31.99ℓ/100RTK, which is already distinctly lower than the target of IATA and the average of partner airlines.

In order to reduce CO2 emissions from aircraft, technology investment for development of high-efficiency aircraft and engine technology, development of bio-fuels and improvement in ATM (Air Traffic Management) are of the utmost importance. |

At the same time, efforts to improve operational procedures together with support for infrastructure such as straightening of air routes, adjustment in air territory and improvement in airport conditions etc. are also required. |

140 aircraft that Korean Air possesses is in Chapter 4 level which is the most rigid level among ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) regulatory standards on noise pollution. |

Korean Air will continue to endeavor to reduce aircraft noise pollution through aggressive investment in introduction of aircraft with lower noise pollution and improvement in noise-abatement procedures during takeoff and landing. |

Korean Air, in order to prevent desertification of Baganuur Mongolia, the source of yellow sand in the Asian region, has promoted the “Korean Air Forest” program since 2004 and has planted 56,500 trees on a 274,000㎡ site. |

In May 2009, Korean Air was awarded the “Environmental Excellence Medal” from the Mongolian Government. |

According to the “Korean Air Green Eco-Park” project of Kubuchi Desert in China that was launched in 2007, it is estimated that 1.8 million trees will be planted in a 6 million ㎡ site by 2011 and when the project is completed reduction in occurrence of yellow sand in the East North Asian Region including Korea is expected. |

As a part of global reforestation activity, Korean Air launched planting tree voluntary activities in Mongolia, China and LA,USA in March 2009, and is unfolding global green management that is beyond national boundaries. |
