Baggage Check-in Procedures and tips
There may be a difference between the weight which you check at home and that checked by staff at the airport because the size of scales used at home tends to be relatively small. |
If the weight of a single bag exceeds 32kg/70lbs, you are not allowed to check in your baggage regardless of excess baggage fee payment; therefore, on such occasions, you should lighten the load or pack your bag again. |
You should check whether you carry objects that are not allowed on board, such as scissors for cosmetic purposes and nail clippers. |
On completion of check-in procedures, you are supposed to wait about 5 minutes until it is scanned through X-ray examination; if there is no problem, you may move to the departure hall. |
For your own safety, you should not carry a stranger’s bag. |
It is highly recommended to keep your baggage tag in order to claim your baggage at the arrival airport without difficulties. |

Baggage Transfer Procedures
From an international flight to another international flight |
| |
(e.g. Incheon-Tokyo-Los Angeles) |
| |
When you use our international flight and subsequently another international flight of a different air service company to get to the final destination country, your baggage is usually automatically transferred to your next flight regardless of air service companies. On such occasions, you do not need to claim your baggage at the transfer location. All you need to do is to ensure that your baggage was checked in at the check-in counter of your departing airport. |
From an international flight to a domestic flight |
| |
Domestic flights in Europe (e.g. Incheon-Frankfurt-Hamburg): Your baggage is automatically connected to your final destination. |
| |
Domestic flights in Korea (e.g. Los Angeles-Incheon-Busan): If you come to Korea and transfer to a Korean domestic flight, you should claim your baggage and check it in again. Your baggage is not automatically connected to your final destination. |
| |
Domestic flights in most countries including Australia, Japan, Russia, China, and India (e.g. Incheon-Tokyo-Fukuoka): Your baggage is not connected to your final destination. |
| |
Domestic flights in USA and Canada (e.g. Incheon-LA-Phoenix): If you come to USA/Canada from another country and transfer to a domestic flight, you should claim your baggage at your first stopover. However, in USA/Canada, a baggage tag displays your final destination as well; therefore, you may just move your baggage to a nearby conveyor belt allocated to transferring customers, after custom inspection, and go to the counter of the domestic air service company for check-in procedures (seat assignment). |
