Baggage Claim and Precautions

Following entry procedures upon arrival, passengers should consult the flight arrival information board to find their flight number and corresponding baggage claim area.
At the baggage claim area, passengers should make sure that a piece of baggage belongs to them by checking the affixed baggage check tag.
If carrying goods to declare, passengers should fill in the “customs declaration forms” distributed during flight and present them along with their passports to customs officials at the customs clearance area following arrival.

Baggage Loss and/or Damage
Following arrival, if baggage has sustained damage or has not arrived,

- Note1.
  If damage to baggage is discovered after completing a number of flights, passengers should notify the airline of the last flight taken.
   
- Note 2.
  Passengers should notify the airline of lost baggage or lost items from baggage within 21 days of the corresponding flight. Damage to items should be notified within 7 days of the corresponding flight.
   
- Note 3.
  If a passenger with lost or delayed baggage has no supporting relations at the point of destination, Korean Air offers a one-time payment of up to US$50 to assist in the purchase of daily necessities.
   
  Preventing Loss of Baggage
 
1. Attach your name and contact information to each piece of baggage.
2. Confirm each baggage check tag. (destination, number of bags, weight, name, etc.)
3. Affix a distinct tag or marker to your baggage in order to differentiate it from other baggage of similar appearance.

Limited Liability and Compensation
If application of the Warsaw Convention is effected, maximum compensation for lost or damaged baggage is US$20 per 1kg (or the equivalent)
If application of the Montreal Convention is effected, each passenger is entitled to 1,000 SDR (special drawing rights).
However, if a larger value has been finalized and ad valorem duties paid beforehand, Korean Air is responsible for compensation of the reported value.
Restricted Compensation Items
Easily damaged/broken or perishable items, health-related medical supplies
Baggage that is excessively heavy and/or overstuffed
Musical instruments and/or sports equipment that is not placed in hard cases
High priced personal electronic goods (including data) such as laptop computers, mobile phones, camcorders, cameras, MP3 players, etc.
Currency, jewelry, precious metals, securities, contracts, dissertations and other important documents, passports, personal identification, samples, antiques, etc.
Precious items that are difficult to appraise
Locks and/or clasps that may sustain damage during security check procedures or film that can sustain damage from passage through X-ray screening
Slight scratches, flaws, and/or stains as well as damage to wheels, handles, and/or locks or clasps resulting from normal baggage handling procedures
Loss of straps and/or baggage accessories
