Special Assistance / Unaccompanied Minors (UM)

   Korean Air’s Unaccompanied Minors(UM) service ensures a safe trip for children traveling alone. Upon receiving a Boarding Pass, children are assisted by an airline staff until an adult guardian at the destination picks them up.

Eligibility
 
Domestic flights : Ages 5 ~ 12
International flights : Ages 5 ~ 11
   
How to apply
 
Contact the Korean Air reservation center at least 24 hours prior to departure time and receive confirmation of your application.
Provide details of the adults(name, relationship, address and telephone number), who are to accompany the child to the departure point and meet the child at the destination.

※ Please contact the reservation center, as the fee varies depending on the destination, and conditions of the air ticket.
NOTES
Children under the age of 5, under no circumstance, can travel alone.
Adolescents between the age of 12 to 16 can apply for the Unaccompanied Minors(UM) service for international flights, if they travel with Korean Air only. An additional service fee (USD100, CAD100 for flights from Canada) will be charged.

Service procedure
Check-in
 
After checking in and filling in an Unaccompanied Minors(UM) service form and the UM will be led to the staff in-charge.
Children will be provided with an UM badge and a pouch to wear, which will help airport staff or flight attendants to recognize them, until they reach their destination.
   
 
On the way to the plane
 
The staff accompanies the children through immigration, customs and the security check to the departure gate.
   
 
On board
 
‘FlyingMom service’ ensures that Korean Air cabin crew look after the Unaccompanied Minors(UM) by a set guideline for their safe and comfortable journey.
   
 
Destinations
 
Staff will assist Unaccompanied Minors(UM) upon arrival, until she/he meets an adult guardian.
   
 
Connecting flights
 
The UM (Unaccompanied Minors) service is available to passengers in transit to other Korean Air flights. (The connecting service is not available on a codeshare flight.)

The connecting service is not available to passengers who transfer to flights of other airlines. (The same service will apply to passengers who either possess UM tickets that are issued or receive UM service approval prior to September 1, 2011.)

NOTES
Upon departure and arrival, children have to be accompanied by an adult. If the designated adult fails to show up upon arrival the child will be returned to the original departure city. The sending guardian is responsible for the extra travel costs. Please inform the designated guardian to arrive at the airport prior to the arrival time of the plane that the child is on board.
UM service procedure is provided same when minors enter Korea.

Notarized guardian consent form is required. Exceptions can be made with Affidavit of Undertakings form provided by Philippines immigration.

NOTES
A 'Guardian consent form' is not mandatory for a passenger under the age of 15 who travels to the Philippines with both parents. However, if the child passenger travels with his/her mother only, a certified copy of resident registration in English is required to establish family relationship as mother’s maiden name on the passport is different from that of the child passenger.

Junior Care Service
Who can apply
 
Available to unaccompanied passengers between 5~16 years of age on nternational-domestic (domestic-international ) connecting flights.
How to register

Make your reservation for Junior Care Service at least 24 hours prior to departure and confirm with Korean Air service center.

Fees: USD 30 for one-way (including KAL limousine service)
   
※ Please make your payment in advance at local ticketing office or branch offices.
Available airport : Inchon Airport, Gimpo Airport.
NOTES
This service is not available when the passenger’s domestic connecting flight is the last flight of the day.
When booking for domestic-international (international-domestic) connecting flights, please keep in mind the time between connecting flights.
 
Domestic (Gimpo Airport) → International (Incheon Airport): 130 minutes
International (Incheon Airport) → Domestic (Gimpo Airport): 150 minutes
