Yang Ho Cho is chairman, CEO and major shareholder of the Hanjin Group, one of the world’s largest transportation conglomerates, as well as Korean Air. The Hanjin Group is a holding company that includes a diverse range of aviation related companies, as well as medical and education institutions. He is also the board of directors chair at a joint venture petroleum and refinery company (S-Oil) between the Hanjin Group and Saudi Aramco, the world’s most valuable company boasting the world’s largest crude oil reserves.

Mr. Cho has served as an ambassador of national interests for the Republic of Korea for many years. As the Chairman of the Korea-Saudi Arabia Business Council since 2008, he played a key role in the growing economic exchange and investment between the two countries. Since that same year, Mr. Cho has also served on the Board of Governors for the International Air Transport Association, representing the interests of over 240 airlines worldwide. As co-chairman of the Korea-French High Level Businessmen’s Club since 2000, he is committed to enhancing cultural and economic exchange between Korea and France.
Mr. Cho has served on the Board of Trustees at the University of Southern California (U.S.A.) since 1997. Over the past decade he has made significant investments in education launching student and professor exchange programs, engaging in international academic-industry partnership projects, implementing initiatives to promote Korean and East Asian culture. He is also the chairman of the Board of Trustees at two major universities in Korea.
Mr. Cho also holds various sports administration positions. He was recently appointed as the Vice President of the Korean Olympic Committee. Most notably, he was the chairman and CEO of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games Bid Committee, which was successful in winning its bid from the International Olympic Committee. He has served as the President of the Korea Table Tennis Association since 2008.
The commitment to business, education and sports demonstrated by Mr. Cho, in addition to his successful leadership, has been widely recognized over the years. He has been awarded the highest civilian honor in several countries: France (`Commandeur’ in the Legion D’Honneur, 2004), Mongolia (Polaris, 2005), Korea (Mugunghwa Medal, 2012 - for his successful leadership of the PyeongChang Olympic Bid Committee.)
Mr. Cho received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Inha University (Korea) followed by an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California. He received a doctoral degree in business administration from Inha University.
Mr. Cho is married with three children and three grandchildren. |
