Special Assistance / Pets

You are not alone when you are off for a long holiday!
Your pets travelling with you are also valued customers of Korean Air.

What do I need to do prior to departure?
In order to travel, pets must be healthy and at least 8 weeks old. Avoid any type of sedatives as it can affect the body temperature and blood pressure of the pet.
Korean Air will refuse to carry any animals that are under medication, violent, ill smelling, sick or pregnant.
Please check in advance if your destination allows pets. (Currently the UK and Australia apply very strict plant and animal regulations, prohibiting passenger planes to carry them.
To check the custom regulations for each country, click 'Custom regulations for each country' or contact the organization concerned.
Rabies vaccination required for pets departing Korea Most countries ask for a rabies vaccination certificate from pets, such as dogs and cats, arriving from Korea.
Pets should be vaccinated 30 days before the departure date. Please make sure that the vaccine will be effective for your entire trip (vaccine is usually good for 1 year.)
What type of kennel do I need for my pet?
Enough space for the pet to move around and it must be made of strong materials, such as metal, wood or plastic.
Soft-sided animal carriers made of fabric or leather with a sturdy structure are permitted for animals traveling in the passenger cabin. For domestic flights within Korea, kennels will be available at Korean Air locations.
Kennels must be leak-proof and have a ventilating opening and a hinged or sliding door with a padlock. The kennel must be padlocked but for emergencies staff should be able to open the kennel.
Food and water should be offered to your pet no more than 2 hours prior to departure and absorbent bedding such as paper, towel or blanket is required inside the kennel.
In case of emergencies your name and telephone number should be written in English on the outside of the kennel.
