What you should know

  • Preferred seats are only available for passengers who have purchased a Korean Air ticket.
  • A passenger traveling with an infant may be seated next to your seat purchased with options (e.g., preferred seats). The space in front of your seat may also be used as a passage for other passengers as the seat is located next to a galley or lavatory.
  • Passengers in extra legroom seats (exit rows) are required to assist the cabin crew in case of emergency. Use of extra legroom seats may be restricted to some passengers.
  • Other than the stated benefits of preferred seats, all other services are the same as those provided in Economy Class.
  • Complimentary selection of seats with purchasable options for Elite members and passengers with tickets in booking classes Y, B, and M is only available before boarding. To use this benefit, please make sure to select your seat before boarding.

How to purchase a seat option

Eligibility

Economy ticket holders for international flights

From ticket purchase until 48 hours before departure

For purchases on the Korean Air website, mobile app, at Korean Air branch offices and ticketing agencies

Check with your travel agency to see if they offer purchasable seat options, as some agencies do not offer these options.

Front zone can be assigned with no charge, subject to availability after the purchase period ends.

From 48 hours before flight departure until before the closing of boarding procedure (extra legroom only)

Available for purchase on the Korean Air website, mobile app, ticket counters at all airports, and check-in counters and gates at Incheon International Airport

Change and cancellation of seat selection

  • A Preferred Seat can be canceled and refunded up to 48 hours prior to departure.
  • Paid seats cannot be canceled or refunded within 48 hours of departure, and paid seat fees will not be refunded upon ticket cancellation.
    • However, refunds are available when the service is not offered due to airline circumstances such as flight cancellation or delay.
  • Paid seats can only be changed to a different seat on the same flight and date. If you change to a different flight, you must cancel your existing paid seat and purchase a new one.
  • To change to a standard seat after purchasing a paid seat, you must first cancel your paid seat.

Notes on selecting emergency exit row seats

  • According to the Technological Standard for Flight Operation (Announcement) of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, emergency exit seats may only be used by passengers who are capable of opening emergency hatches in case of an emergency. Please select a seat after checking the regulations below.
  • Passengers who tamper with exit doors, aircraft doors, onboard equipment, etc. (unless told to operate by our crew) could be prosecuted and sentenced for up to 10 years in prison under the Aviation Security Act.
  • If a passenger who selected a seat in advance is determined ineligible to use the seat at the departure airport or in the cabin, the seat may be changed and the cost of the extra legroom purchased will not be refunded.

Passengers not eligible for emergency exit row seats

  1. Passengers under 15 years of age and those who cannot sufficiently perform one or more actions listed in 2 below without the help of accompanying travelers
  2. Passengers who experience difficulty performing the following actions due to lack of mobility, physical strength, or agility in both arms, hands, or legs
    • To access the operating controls for emergency exits or escape slides
    • To hold and push, pull, or turn the control devices for the escape slides
    • To open the emergency hatches by pushing or pulling
    • To lift the window-type emergency hatches above the wings or move the disconnected parts to the next seats or rows
    • To remove obstacles of a similar size and weight to those of window-type emergency hatches above the wings
    • To approach emergency exits swiftly
    • To maintain balance while removing obstacles
    • To escape swiftly
    • To maintain stability of the escape slides after they are unfolded or inflated
    • To assist evacuating passengers in the use of the escape slides
  3. Passengers who cannot read or understand emergency evacuation instructions in written or pictorial form, as well as those who cannot understand oral instructions given by cabin crew
  4. Passengers who cannot perform one or more of the roles listed above without using optical equipment, excluding contact lenses and eye glasses
  5. Passengers who cannot hear or understand instructions given by cabin crew without using hearing equipment, excluding regular hearing aids
  6. Passengers who cannot surciently convey information to other passengers
  7. Passengers with personal conditions(senior passengers, pregnant passengers, unaccompanied minors, etc.) or responsibilities(passengers traveling with infants and children under the age of 15, passengers traveling with pets, etc.) that may impede them in or cause harm to them while performing one or more actions listed in 2 above.
  8. Passengers who do not intend to assist in the evacuation of other passengers in the case of an emergency
  9. Passengers intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other substance, at any time during check-in, boarding, and flight

Purchasable seat option benefits

Chargeable seat options come with the following benefits. (limited to Extra Legroom, Front zone)

Priority handling of checked baggage

Enjoy priority checked baggage handling equivalent to that of Morning Calm members.

This is only applicable when baggage is checked through a Korean Air counter at the first point of departure, and is not provided for transfer baggage from other airlines connecting to Korean Air.

Economy Class priority boarding

Order of boarding is indicated on the boarding pass, and priority boarding is available for Zone 1.

This applies only to flights operated by Korean Air and is not available on flights operated by other airlines.

Extra legroom

These seats offer extra legroom compared to standard seats. You can stretch your legs during your flight.
