Information on damaged bags

  • At check-in, checked baggage is assigned a unique number by the airline before making its way through the airport conveyor system to the baggage handling area, where it is transported onto loading vehicles and finally loaded onto aircraft.
  • Baggage is liable to damage in the transporting and loading process, which is managed by the airline and its associated handling agents.

Compensation for damaged bags is subject to airline policy, which may not be awarded in some cases.

Report a damaged bag

  • Damaged bags or items missing from the bags must be reported to the airline within 7 days of receiving the baggage.
  • If you have used multiple airlines, please contact the last carrier.
  • Wear & tear policy
    • The airline is not liable for minor scratches, dents, flattening, stains, wear and tear, and other damage, as well as any loss of and damage to accessories, locks, name tags, covers, belts, and other components, which may occur during normal baggage handling.
  • Damage sustained from random screening
    • If the U.S. Transportation Security Administration has randomly searched your baggage, there will either be a written notice inside the baggage or a seal outside the baggage. If you feel that your bag has been damaged by this search, please contact the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at 1-866-289-9673.
  • Sports equipment not in a hard case, including golf clubs, is not subject to damage compensation.
