Information on passenger-owned wheelchairs

  • Korean Air will transport passengers’ wheelchairs and walking aids free of charge.
  • If the dimensions of your wheelchair exceed 122 cm (width) x 84 cm (height), please contact our Service Center as it may be difficult to fit on smaller aircraft (such as the B737).
  • Electric wheelchairs require special action from the airline, such as removing the battery, so please let us know if you use one when booking your ticket. (Electric wheelchairs will be placed in the cargo compartment per our regulations on hazardous materials.)
  • If you are traveling with your own wheelchair, you’ll still be able to receive assistance at the airport from a designated Korean Air agent.

Information on Korean Air wheelchairs

A passenger using the wheelchair service can use a wheelchair provided by the airport to get to the boarding gate and use their own wheelchair at the arrival gate. (The passenger must request their wheelchair be brought to the arrival gate.) However, delivery of personal wheelchairs to the arrival gate may be restricted due to airport conditions, in which case a passenger can use the airport’s wheelchair to get to the baggage claim area to pick up their wheelchair.

    • If your wheelchair exceeds the dimensions of the cargo door, please contact the Service Center for assistance.
  • If a passenger traveling from/to the U.S. with a wheelchair has to take an alternative flight because their wheelchair does not fit in their preferred flight, they may request a refund for any fare difference after completing their journey, based on the service center’s internal records.
    • Applicable only when the alternative flight is a KE-operated flight with the same date, origin, destination, and cabin class and for tickets issued on or after March 17, 2025.

Guidelines for Checking in a Wheelchair

  • During the check-in process, we will inspect your wheelchair for any pre-existing damage and ensure its safe handling to prevent any issues during transportation. If you notice any damage to your wheelchair upon arrival, we kindly ask you to complete a damage report form.
  • To provide exceptional service and protect the rights of customers with disabilities, Korean Air has designated Complaints Resolution Officer (CRO) at domestic airports (Incheon and Busan) as well as at all U.S. airports. If you wish to speak with a CRO, please feel free to contact one of our staff members to put you in contact with CRO.
  • For customers traveling from/to the United States, if your wheelchair is lost, damaged, or delayed, you may file a claim with a CRO and choose to have your wheelchair repaired or replaced by a vendor of your preference or our service providers.
