  • For departures from regions other than Korea, the U.S., Canada and Indonesia, the base currency for payment is USD (converted to the local currency at the exchange rate applicable on the date of departure)
  • Flight tickets for unaccompanied children must be purchased at the normal adult fare and the service charge must be paid as well.
  • The service charge applicable for the flight segment may be paid by credit card, cash or miles.
  • If you choose to pay the service charge with miles, 15,000 miles are required for children aged 5 to 11, and 20,000 miles for those aged 12 to 16.  

Services provided from departure to arrival

STEP 1

Booking

  • Unaccompanied minors are assigned aisle seats to ensure the highest level of service and attention from our cabin crew.

STEP 2

Boarding the aircraft

  • When you drop off your child at the departure point, your documents will be checked at the counter and a dedicated staff member will begin accompanying your child.
  • Your child will be accompanied by a designated staff member through the security checkpoint, then a cabin crew member at the boarding gate will take over.

STEP 3

During the flight

  • A designated cabin crew member will care for your child throughout the flight.

STEP 4

Arrival

  • A designated staff member will accompany your child from the gate through immigration and baggage claim and will stay with your child until you (or another guardian) arrive(s).

Country-specific regulations

  • When a passenger under the age of 18 is traveling alone or entering the country with a guardian other than a parent, a parental consent form needs to be signed.

  • If you do not have the required documents, you may need to go through detailed entry screening, which may take longer.

  • Documents must be in English or French and include a parent or legal guardian’s signature, residential address, and contact information (departure city/contact in Canada).

  • Regulations for the Philippines 
    • Minors under 15 years old traveling alone to the Philippines without a permanent resident card must request the unaccompanied minor service and prepare the necessary documents.
    • The following documents are also required for minors under 15 years old entering the Philippines with an authorized guardian other than a parent. 
    • A guardian consent form (or a certificate of family relation) is also required for minors traveling with a parent not sharing the same last name (e.g., an unaccompanied minor traveling with their mother whose passport does not state the last name of the minor’s father).
    • If your child is traveling alone without an adult guardian, please provide the personal information (name, date of birth, nationality and passport number) of a local guardian in the “Adult Companion” field. In addition, please present a copy of the local guardian’s identification card.

The unaccompanied minor service must be requested for passengers under the age of 14 entering Vietnam alone without a parent or guardian.

  • When a passenger under the age of 18 is traveling alone, a parental consent form needs to be signed.
  • Without this document, the screening process may take longer or you may be denied entry.

What you should know

  • The unaccompanied minor service is only available on segments directly operated by Korean Air.

  • The guardian(s) dropping off and picking up the unaccompanied minor must be 18 years of age or older.

  • The unaccompanied minor service must also be requested if a minor is traveling on the same flight as their adult companion but in a different cabin class.

  • Please check the applicable country-specific regulations for entry of unaccompanied minors.

 Unaccompanied children aged 5 to 12 traveling on a domestic flight may request the service free of charge after purchasing a ticket at the regular adult fare.

    (When booking through the Korean Air website, you must select your seat in advance, and an aisle seat may not be available depending on seat availability.)

  • Your child will be accompanied by a designated staff member through the security checkpoint, then a cabin crew member at the boarding gate will take over.

What you should know

  • The guardian dropping off and picking up the unaccompanied minor for domestic flights must be 13 years of age or older.
  • The unaccompanied minor service must also be requested if a minor is traveling on the same flight as their adult companion but in a different cabin class.

  • Pets are not allowed when using the unaccompanied minor service.

How to request the service

Request the unaccompanied minor service

  • In order to request the unaccompanied minor service, you need to first purchase a ticket. 
    • For children under 12 years of age, please purchase tickets through the Korean Air service center. 
  • Please request the service through the Korean Air service center at least 24 hours before departure and ensure you receive a confirmation message. 
  • Please make sure the name and contact information (address, phone number) of the guardian at the airport of departure/arrival is accurate.

After receiving the confirmation for your request

  • Once your request is confirmed, you will receive a notification via Alim Talk messenger, text message, or e-mail.

  • Seven days before your departure date, you will receive an unaccompanied minor transportation request form via smartphone and e-mail. Please fill out this form before you arrive at the airport.
