What you should know

• Mileage is accrued based on the actual flight boarded. Therefore, if you board a flight on another airline instead of Korean Air due to a schedule change, mileage can be earned only if the actual operating airline is a partner airline of Korean Air.
• If you wish to purchase or change a Korean Air Award ticket using partner airline mileage, please contact the airline that operates the mileage program you are enrolled in.

• You cannot board a Aeroflot flight with a SkyTeam award ticket. 
• It's unavailable to use a CSA Czech Airlines flight with a SkyTeam award ticket as of October 27, 2024 based on the boarding date.

Itinerary conditions

• SkyTeam award tickets can be used on all SkyTeam airline operating flights, excluding codeshare flights with the exception of Incheon-Paris, Incheon-Amsterdam, and Incheon-Jakarta routes.
• You can use it for a SkyTeam flight or a Korean Air flight and a SkyTeam flight combined.
• If traveling on a domestic flight and a SkyTeam partner airline segment, miles will be deducted separately for the domestic segment and the SkyTeam partner airline segment.
• Award tickets are to be used on direct flights between origin and destination cities.
  • Transfers are allowed for boarding a connecting flight only when there is no direct route.
  • When the transferring location is not on a direct route between the origin and destination but on a detour route, two or more SkyTeam award tickets must be issued separately instead of one award ticket.

• A trip must start and end in the same country.
• This is based on a round trip. Mileage for a round trip is deducted for a one-way trip as well.
• Origin and destination cities cannot be visited twice; hence, they cannot be transfer points.

Blackout dates

• Boarding may be prohibited during certain periods based on partner airline policies.
• SkyTeam award tickets cannot be used during Korean Air’s award peak season. During this period, SkyTeam award tickets are not allowed for Korean Air flights.

Transfer and stopover

• Up to two transfers per direction are allowed between origin and destination cities.
• One stopover is allowed during the entire journey in a city other than the destination, and it counts as a transfer. One open jaw travel segment is allowed only at the destination, and it is not considered a stopover.

  • Itinerary only within North America (US/Canada): 4 hours or longer
  • All other itineraries: 24 hours or longer

How to book

Booking and ticketing

• SkyTeam award tickets can be issued on the Korean Air website and mobile app or at the Service Center and branch offices.​
• Award tickets must be used in the issued order and can only be issued when all bookings are confirmed.

Pooling mileage within the Family Plan

• You can redeem awards for your trip entirely with mileage given from a registered family member.
• You cannot redeem SkyTeam awards with Family Plan mileage.

Infants and children

• The same amount of mileage is deducted as adult passengers for infants and children occupying a seat. Infants are not eligible for awards without occupying a seat.

Change and refund

Itinerary change

• Tickets must be reissued at the service center or a branch office.
• A reissue fee is charged for changes to SkyTeam Award tickets. You can change your itinerary before or after you start using the ticket, but a change fee of KRW 30,000 (CAD 30 for departures from Canada, IDR 350,000 for departures from Indonesia) will be applied, and additional mileage may be deducted depending on the itinerary.

Ticket refund

• Mileage can be refunded if a ticket is completely unused. Once the ticket is used, even partially, it is not eligible for refund.
  • When mileage is refunded, the expiration date of the returned mileage will be the same as the expiration date of the mileage used. However, mileage that has expired at the time of refund will be forfeited and will not be returned.
• Fees vary based on the time of refund request. This fee is paid using mileage.
• When requesting a refund for entirely unused award tickets within 24 hours of purchase, the refund fee is exempted.

Validity period

• Award tickets are valid for 1 year from the date of issue, which cannot be extended.

No-show penalty

• If you fail to board the flight after the check-in process or without canceling the reservation before flight departure, a no-show penalty will apply based on your boarding class.
• Itinerary changes after no-show will incur the amount equivalent to the no-show penalty applicable to paid tickets.
  
• 500 miles will be deducted at the time of refund for a no-show of Korea domestic award tickets.
