Ticketing conditions

  • Seat upgrade awards can be used on Korean Air routes and may be limited when using codeshare flights operated by partner airlines.
  • Seat upgrade awards can be used on flight tickets with a booking class eligible for seat upgrade.
    • Korea domestic flights: Y, M (M: Seat upgrade awards are applicable to domestic transit flights only.)
    • International flights: J, C, Y, B, M
  • Seat upgrade awards can be used for an upgrade to the next higher class only.
    • Economy Class → Prestige Class seat upgrade allowed, Economy Class → First Class seat upgrade not allowed
    • However, Economy Class → Premium Economy Class or Economy Class → Prestige Class seat upgrades are allowed on routes with Premium Economy Class.
  • Seat upgrade awards cannot be used on tickets with a discount of 50% or more and on tickets sold with other upgrade restrictions.
  • If traveling on international flights with domestic flight connections in Korea (including Transit Exclusive Domestic Flights), additional miles will be deducted for the domestic segment.

Issuance of seat upgrade awards for infants and children

  • The same amount of mileage for adults is deducted for children and infants occupying a seat.
  • For infants not occupying a seat on international flights, 10% of the mileage for adults is deducted. For domestic flights in Korea, infants can travel free of charge.

What you should know

  • Additional taxes may apply for seat upgrades, as taxes vary depending on the cabin class in some countries.
    E.g., Air Passenger Duty in the United Kingdom, Solidarity Tax in France, etc.
  • Award ticket purchases or changes at the service center or a branch office may be subject to ticket service charges.
  • When traveling on an international flight using an award ticket, booking and ticket purchase must be completed beforehand. You cannot be waitlisted at the airport.
  • The validity of an upgrade award ticket is the same as that of the original paid ticket.
