About Jinju
A city of lanterns more radiant than jewels
Jinju is a city of art with a beautiful view of the Namgang River. Chokseongnu Pavilion at Jinjuseong Fortress is one of Korea’s three most beautiful pavilions. In Jinju, there are many historic sites that tell the painful history of Imjinwaeran, the Japanese invasion of Korea. On the cliffs of the Namgang River is the rock from which Nongae threw herself into the river below, while holding a Japanese general she had lured into her arms. This is also Korea’s largest historic site from the Bronze Age. There is a museum displaying remains from this era.
